COACH TANYA GARNER
Coach Tanya Garner is currently the head coach of the boy’s basketball team at Nazareth Prep. She was employed for five years as the Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at Duquesne University under Coach Dan Durkin. Some of her duties included working with guards, handling service projects, and recruiting and scouting.
Coach Garner earned a basketball scholarship to Penn State University in Happy Valley. She finished her career with 1,538 points. She completed her degree in Human Development and Family Studies at PSU in 1991.
At West Mifflin Area High School, Coach Garner played basketball and was also an Assistant Girl’s Basketball Coach. As a coach, she helped lead the Titans to the 2001 WPIAL Class AAA championship crown and to a title game in the PIAA state championship.
Coach Garner has worked with children and the elderly in the field of social work for over 20 years. She is a proud Pittsburgh native.

Coach Shaheed Washington
Coach Shaheed Washington was born and raised in West Mifflin, PA. He played basketball at West Mifflin Area High School as a four-year letterman on varsity where he scored over 800 points as a point guard.
Coach Washington is currently the assistant coach of the boy’s basketball team at Nazareth Prep. He previously has coached at West Mifflin Area Middle School 7th grade girls’ basketball team as well as West Mifflin Metro 5th and 6th grade girls’ basketball team. Some of his strengths in development includes dribbling, passing, and shooting.
Coach Washington has worked with kids at Charlie Batch Project C.H.U.C.K Best of the Batch Foundation basketball league over 10 years on staff as a coach, referee, and mentoring boys and girls of all ages.
Coach Washington will be coaching 10th grade for the organization.
Try-out dates will be in the beginning of January 2021. Please contact Coach Garner if you would like to try-out for the team earlier.
